THE MILLER'S HOUSE
Tucked away in a side street of the old village, not far from FLUMET's main thoroughfare, you will find the picturesque home of the local miller. The museum tells the history of the mill, which was one of the most important in Savoie.
The mill, on the banks of the river that provided the water to turn the millstones, was kept running until 1973. It is now being restored. An ingenious cable car system, built in 1951, connected the house and the mill, and carried the sacks of flour up to the village.
Lying 30 metres above the Arly, the museum tells the story of the Tienne mill. The first room houses an exhibition of old photographs showing the village and local area, the lives of our forebears and the mill.
The second room contains a collection of farming and household objects. And it is planned to renovate the first floor to house a collection of traditional dress.
The museum has been open since 2002, and is now being run and restored by the “Association du Moulin à Tienne Sous La Ville”. Although the mill is in poor condition, it still has all its original machinery and fittings.
Entrance is free but all contributions to the project, however small, are gratefully received. Not to be missed...
